The Fingal Schools League was established in 1971. At that time Gaelic Games were in decline in North County Dublin.
Sean Smyth a teacher in Rush N.S. and Dan O’ Reilly St Colmcille’s BNS, Swords were approached by Philip Markey R.I.P. then chairman of Fingal and later Dublin Co. Board with a view to establish a schools football competition to promote the playing of gaelic games in the north county. The result of that meeting was The Fingal Schools League. In it’s first year only 4 schools Rush N.S.,St Colmcille’s BNS Swords, Clonshaugh N.S. and St Patrick’s BNS Donabate took part in the competition.
